LMDE Cinnamon repeatedly fails to boot after update [SOLVED]

Post by sweuk »

About half an hour back, LMDE Cinnamon was running beautifully on my 32-bit Dell laptop. Then somewhat mechanically I checked and installed updates on it, and now the system keeps on crashing within less than 10 seconds. Login through Gnome instead of Cinnamon is working fine.

To cut a long story short, here's the report I got in the Fallback Mode:

Could someone please tell me how to get the "GjsDBus" it requires? Better, how do I get back to the state before the updates were installed? No, I haven't backed up my files. :(

Hi,

I had the same problem today after an upgrade. To solve this I open a Gnome Classic Session and went to the Synaptic Package Manager and upgrade the Cinnamon package. After this, I logged out and start a new session with cinnamon, and everything worked properly.

Thanks a lot Hector. I did that already once from Software Center and from Synaptic, removing Cinnamon in its entirety and installing it again. Cinnamon 1.8.8+lmde (which Synaptic says is the latest) is there on my system.

But the problem remains as before.

I've decided to switch to Linux Mint Olivia for the time being.
Anyway, thanks to everyone here for their help.

Can't boot to Gnome Session too. Anyone know how to login textmode and command line to fix.
