Petra repository down (February 2014)

Post by CliveMcCarthy »

I upgraded my Mint 14 installation on my main workstation to Mint 16 (Petra) two days ago. The update repository has been down almost from the moment I installed the new version.
There is no real news on the web beyond a brief blog note from Clement Lefebvre which Google had cached.

It's obvious that I was simply unlucky in choosing when to upgrade. I'm now stuck. Any forecast as to when the repository will be back up would be welcome. It is tedious to manual poll the update manager...

I just checked sudo apt-get update and these repositories are working:
http://packages.linuxmint.com petra
http://mirrors.liquidweb.com saucy
http://security.ubuntu.com saucy
I also installed updates this morning with the Update Manager.

Check your Menu > Administration > Software Sources
Mint 18.2 Cinnamon, Quad core AMD A8-3870 with Radeon HD Graphics 6550D, 8GB DDR3, Ralink RT2561/RT61 802.11g PCI
Linux Linx 2018

This is weird. I checked Menu > Administration > Software Sources and things look good packages.linuxmint.com -- I then tried apt-get update and got a whole load of 404's from 91.189.91.14
My network connection is fine. If it works for you then it has to be something at my end. Hmm...

I can ping the IP addresses and Firefox will load them so why the 404s I don't know.

Thank you, that did the trick -- replaced "saucy" for "petra" in the Ubuntu URLs in "official-package-repositories.list"
