bluefish problems

Post by fiziwig »

I first installed Mint just a few days ago. This is my first exposure to Linux of any kind.
I just installed bluefish and when I launch it in the terminal I get this:

Code: Select all

error reading list 1 Error opening file: No such file or directory

** (bluefish:4609): WARNING **: no configfile rcfile-2.0, try to convert config files from older versions

config file migration error 1:Error opening file: No such file or directoryerror reading list 1 Error opening file: No such file or directory
error reading list 1 Error opening file: No such file or directory
I'm a Linux newbie so I don't even know where to begin. It seems to work, mostly, in spite of the messages (aside from sometimes freezing up completely with an empty popup dialog box left dangling in the middle of the screen)

Also, whenever I click on a directory in the directory tree in the left side panel of bluefish I get this error:

Code: Select all

(bluefish:4609): Gtk-CRITICAL **: gtk_tree_path_get_depth: assertion 'path != NULL' failed
After opening and closing a few dozen files the terminal is loaded with pages and pages of that same error message.

Any suggestions?

You can make use of other editors as well, maybe they wont give errors.
I have not make use of Bluefish, so I wont be able to assist with the error as so.

Komodo Edit
Nvu
Kompozer
Emacs

Happy apt-get-ing!

I recently installed bluefish (I had been using Komodo Edit 8.3). I was getting similar (though not identical) errors when I launched it from the command line.

I edited a bunch of preferences, applied them, saw a few more errors whenever I clicked "Apply", then shut bluefish down. When i restarted it, there were no errors or warnings.

Maybe it's looking for a config file that doesn't exist until you create it...

Hello,

Kompozer is not maintained for years, I suggest not to start with it.

I use Bluefish for 2 years, not any problem, last released was 3 months ago.

I've been using bluefish for years; I suddenly encountered this exact same problem today, and bluefish failed to start. Linux Mint 17.3, AMD 64 bit, MATE edition.

Code: Select all

paul@jp ~ $ bluefish
error reading list 1 Error opening file: No such file or directory

** (bluefish:4280): WARNING **: no configfile rcfile-2.0, try to convert config files from older versions

config file migration error 1:Error opening file: No such file or directoryerror reading list 1 Error opening file: No such file or directory

(bluefish:4280): GLib-ERROR **: /build/buildd/glib2.0-2.40.2/./glib/gmem.c:103: failed to allocate 18446744073680324610 bytes
Trace/breakpoint trap
paul@jp ~ $
After researching elsewhere, I found that removing the .bluefish directory in my home directory worked.
Bluefish runs, but still throws a few errors on starting.

Code to fix :

Code: Select all

paul@jp ~ $ cd
paul@jp ~ $ mv .bluefish .bluefish_old
paul@jp ~ $ bluefish
Result when I run bluefish after renaming (or removing) the .bluefish directory :

Code: Select all

paul@jp ~ $ bluefish
error reading list 1 Error opening file: No such file or directory

** (bluefish:15766): WARNING **: no configfile rcfile-2.0, try to convert config files from older versions

config file migration error 1:Error opening file: No such file or directoryerror reading list 1 Error opening file: No such file or directory
error reading list 1 Error opening file: No such file or directory
cleanup_scanner, memory scancache 0(0Kb+0Kb) found 0(0Kb) fcontext 0(0Kb) = 0Kb
Once I was in bluefish, I was able to remove the warning message by changing a preference, (menu option Edit->preferences) and click Apply.
Now, when I run bluefish again, I get

Code: Select all

paul@jp ~ $ bluefish
cleanup_scanner, memory scancache 0(0Kb+0Kb) found 0(0Kb) fcontext 0(0Kb) = 0Kb
Hope this helps someone else.
Sheldon.
