I am trying to install Elyssa on a pc with 1 sata disk. (In the BIOS the sata disk controller is set to run in IDE mode.) I have tried several times times but every time I see the following fatal error at 94% completion:
Unable to install GRUB in (hd0)
executing 'grub install (hd0)' failed.
As a result there is no GRUB directory in /boot and no menu.lst -file. I opened a terminal and tried:
grub> root (hd0,0)
Filesystem type unknown, partition type 0x7
grub> setup (hd0)
Error 17: Cannot mount selected partition
grub> setup (hd0,0)
Error 17: Cannot mount selected partition
grub> geometry (hd0)

I also issued the command:

mint@mint ~ $
AFAIK /dev/sda2 is formatted as ext3. GParted shows that as well. I have also tried to install the boot loader to /dev/sda2 and to fd0 with the advanced option in the last screen before installation starts, but the same fatal error is produced.

Re: Elyssa & Grub / Installation fails
Since you want to use sda2, how about entering "root (hd0,1)" then "setup (hd0)"?
Re: Elyssa & Grub / Installation fails
Nessa, thanks for your response. I found a solution somewhere on the Net: not format as ext3 but as ext2. Elyssa and Grub installed without problems. For me totally amazing and not logical, but it worked!
