[solved] Has anything happened to the apt repositories?

Post by herouth »

I installed Petra/Cinnamon on my new HTPC. But when I tried to update the software - either through the update manager or through command-line apt-get, I got tons of errors about missing "Indexes", and it appears that there were many repositories where Petra was hosted on Ubuntu's servers and are now 404.

Is it just something on my side or has Ubuntu given Mint the kick?

I can't even install vim on my new machine. :-(

Same story on my end. I was doing my weekly update process and a fair number of Ubuntu mirrors are just unresponsive.

Thanks. Does anybody know if there is a way to alert the distro people about this?

I had similar problems and fixed them quickly with the help of members on here...you need to reset your sources list....and there is another apt-get command to fix this. Check out the link for more info.
Thanks, but the solution suggested there (renaming the lists directory, recreating it and running apt-get update again) is not working.

The actual URLs are 404. I checked by trying to access them directly. The whole directory structure on the Ubuntu servers is missing.

Please, can anybody point me to a way to contact the distro team and alert them to this?

Never mind: solved. Based on this thread, I went to the software sources thing in the menu, changed the sources for both Petra and Saucy to different mirrors (actually, closer to me geographically and topologically) and updated the cache. Voila, problem solved.
