Code: Select all

mplayer -dvd-device /dev/sro dvd://1
The movie is brand new will not play and also another burned movie will not play

Error in Kaffeine I receive is

Code: Select all

Read error from:

and in VLC its

Playback failure:
DVDRead could not open the disc "/dev/dvd".
Your input can't be opened:
VLC is unable to open the MRL 'dvd:///dev/dvd'. Check the log for details.

You probably need to install
ubuntu-restricted-extras
synaptic: "Installing this package will pull in support for MP3 playback and decoding, support for various other audio formats (GStreamer plugins), Microsoft fonts, Flash plugin, LAME (to create compressed audio files), and DVD playback."
and perhaps
libdvdread4
libdvdcss2

(they might be in ubuntu-restricted-extras)

and perhaps gstreamer (go down about 1/3 of the page):

It's not Mint's fault, it's because of some silly legal mumbo-jumbo.

But try ubuntu-restricted-extras and see if it works.

Your data and OS are backed up....right?

Hi thanks for your response. Ill try the other stuff that you said, but as you can see, the first line of my post is that I did in fact install the ubuntu-restricted-packages, I believe so. Is there a specific package other than what is commonly known as ubuntu-restricted-packages? Thanks
