Looking good!
I decided to stop using MATE and I've switched to Xfce.
In seperate partitions I now have Mint13 Xfce en 17 Xfce.
No problems with the 32 bit version so far.
I'm sorry to say that MATE looks a bit old-fashion and a
bit too business-like for my taste.

Hey, quick question about RC releases. i am pretty new to the Linux game but have used Mint 13 XFCE for a while now and really like it. I have been trying out 17 MATE, but don't like it as much. So, have several computuers I'd like to update with 17 XFCE, just wondering, with this RC release, once loaded can I just run updates for the forseeable future or will I need to reinstall when a final or stable version comes around?

Thanks,

Hi All,

Can anyone tell me what the base RAM usage is, for a default installation, with only the Task Manager running?

Thanks, Michael.

Should have mentioned that I was interested in the 32 bit version regarding the RAM usage.

Thanks, Michael.

Wait a few hours until the official announcement.
But you will find the iso on the servers and mirrors since they have to be synced before announcement ;)

Installed Mint 17 Xfce the other day, no problems, one minor quibble:

---> How about having a "don't install the MBR anywhere" option on the installer?

Can anyone tell me what the base RAM usage is, for a default installation, with only the Task Manager running?

With an xfce terminal and conky running (no task manager), and running fluxbox rather than xfce:

Code: Select all

$ free -m
total used free shared buffers cached
Mem: 3952 567 3385 1 47 342
-/+ buffers/cache: 176 3775
Swap: 2000 0 2000

Swap: 2000 0 2000
That's huge. My LMDE Cinnamon is only 15% more. I guess Conky takes a lot of RAM.

I have 3 GB of RAM and it shows 6% usage with only task manager open on a freshly booted machine.
