[Solved] Questions about Catfish

Post by RytronII »

Hi.

I've got a few questions about Catfish.

What would happen if I installed more backends like so?

Code: Select all

sudo apt-get install findutils locate pinot tracker strigi-client
Does Catfish use locate and find be default? I notice that 'locate' is not currently installed in Synaptic yet Catfish can still find text within found files.

In past distros, I used to use this command to launch via menu entry:
catfish --fileman=caja --path=/home/YOURUSERNAME --hidden --method=find
or
catfish --fileman=caja --path=/home/YOURUSERNAME --hidden --method=locate
but now though just this part works
catfish --fileman=caja --path=/home/YOURUSERNAME --hidden

From what I can tell, Catfish uses mlocate and findutils (both are preinstalled in Qiana). I noticed this Synatic entry for mlocate: /etc/cron.daily/mlocate so CF gets auto updated.

I uninstalled those backends (bar findutils) mentioned above as they made CF unusable.

A menu entry like this will suffice: catfish --path=/home/rytron/Documents
