Hibernate and Suspend problem

Post by ad-hawk »

I installed Mint 5 on my Acer 4520 laptop. I can't hibernate my laptop, because it does just like being suspended. All things are still on, just screen goes blank, and power LED is blinking yellow every second. And it can't be woken from hibernate. The only thing works is forcing it to shut down by pressing power button 4 secs.

The same thing happens with Suspend. Screen goes blank, and can't revive it.

I've seen a similar posting here http://www.linuxmint.com/forum/viewtopi ... =49&t=1647 but the hibernation problem got no solution.

Please help

Good for you :)
There are two exhaustive topics in the Ubuntu forums about your laptop
http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php? ... most+guide
and
http://ph.ubuntuforums.com/showthread.p ... 0&t=510352
Please be careful to adopt only solutions suitable for Elyssa - that is for Hardy
And not everything that works there works here

Acer support for suspend and hibernation was broken a couple of kernels ago. In Mint Cassandra it worked fine, but sometime after a kernel update to Celena (I think), it was broken. And it has remained that way through Celena, Daryna, and now Elyssa. This is an Ubuntu issue, though. Inherited by Mint. Sucks. I just crank the processor down to 800Mhz, turn the screen off, and shut the lid. Poor man's suspend, but the battery will last about four hours that way. It's a crappy solution, but everything else works so I live with it. My wife has Vista Home on the same laptop, and after some wacky Windows update, her laptop stopped suspending too. Go figure...

Ay, yay, yay ... you're right. I remembered I had tried Cassandra for a brief before, and I forget about that completely when I installed Elyssa and decided to live with it. I mobile quite lot, suspend is not my option, so I just simply turn it off (and wait for boot-up time - ouch!) Haven't figure that out, ...yet
