[SOLVED] Docky - shutdown docklet?? How 'bout deleting some?

Greetings,

I'm in my LMDE Cinnamon and I'm using Docky. I have added docklets through the Docky tool, and I've gone to /usr/share/applications and dragged a couple to it. I have also used the menu on the Panel to open applications and then right-clicked to add to the Dock that way.

Here are my questions:

Is there no way to add a Docklet to shutdown the machine, or log out of an acct? There was one that I tried adding through Docky called "Session Manager" but I'm not too impressed with it--you can log out, but Shutdown doesn't work, just wipes out your Docky app. (I'm guessing that there's the underlying command that is incorrect in syntax for what I want to do on LMDE/Cinnamon, but that's just a guess). Can this be fixed? I'd sure like to just tap a shutdown button off the Dock....

Is there no such thing as screensavers under LMDE Cinnamon?? I can put a message out there and it'll blank the machine, but no screensavers. I'm guessing that this is a feature and not a fault--power saving or some such reason, but wanted to check on that.

Finally: I added something to the dock by opening the app from the menu and right clicked to add to Docky, and now there is no way of getting rid of it that I can see.

Hi Kim

I made my own launcher and added it to the dock. I used 'alacarte' menu editor, though menulibre would work too. (Dont remember what comes with Cinnamon).

The command is

cinnamon-session-quit --power-off

It got truncated in the screen shot.

I use xfscreensaver in Cinnamon not the default.

To remove from dock just drag it off to desktop ..... POOF!...

Well, I could add shutdown to the Dock, but launcher also created a launcher on the desktop. It is in the menu, now under "Other", and works from there. I could also add it as an applet to the panel. When I delete the launcher from the Desktop, the Shutdown on the Dock no longer works, so obviously they're tied together.

How did you add it to Dock without putting it on the Desktop?

I got it to work and managed to get the launch for Shutdown off my Desktop.

When I right click on the background I can open the launcher and create the Shutdown, as you mentioned in your first response, but it puts it on the desktop where I don't want it, and naturally deleting it from the Desktop will kill it on Docky.

Didn't see anywhere to change the path for the launch for Shutdown using the launcher tool.

So, I created it as above, then opened up a Terminal and did a:

 cd Desktop
 sudo mv Shut* /usr/share/applications

After that, I could drag it from the /usr/share/applications folder onto the Dock, and now it works fine off the Dock and I don't have it pinned to the Desktop any more. I like to keep the background uncluttered...
