Matlab Speed tweaks? Windows is faster :( solved

Post by Harrs »

Are there any tweaks for Matlab in Mint Linux.

Because i have a notebook ASUS Z53-AP238
with 2 gb ram and dual core intel CPU.

There was Windows Vista installed.. I installed Mint Linux 4.0

Now when i compare the speed in Matlab. VISTA vs Linux, Vista is much faster.
Same m-file same operation.
After reboot i start matlab without starting any other software.
Here my benchmark results. its the median from 10 calculations of this operation.

Vista 13.49 sec
Mint 21.23 sec

WHY ?? thats nearly 50 % speed

VISTA SP1 32 bit
Mint 4.0 with all updates (No compiz.. )
Matlab 2007b on windows and linux both have multicore enabled. But both are only using one core for this operation.

Matlab is not found in the repositories, so the question is what have you installed?
Maybe it is not the right version
And you say Mint 4.0 - is it the KDE edition you installed?

Matlab is no freeware. and no open Source.
You need a licence.

Its ok Linux is faster than Windows.. Only in this one Operation Windows is much faster.
Other Benchmark Test results.

Vista 48.3 sec
Mint Linux 41.2 sec

And with this Benchmark http://www.mathworks.com/matlabcentral/ ... tType=file Linux was 115 % and windows 88 %
