Hi everybody
I have dabbled in the past with dual booting various distros alongside Windows.(since the end of Dos 6.1) Installing Linux as sole OS usually ended in disaster and a return to Windows usually as a result of bootloader or grub ? errors.
My main pc activity centres around gaming, making Windows essential for me. I recently found out that many new games can work on Linux via Steam or Wine.
I still have to research the spectrum of games that qualify as such. I am currently downloading the Mint iso to retry my hand at Linux and dual boot with Win7 while doing the research.
I have made a disk image of my Windows installation for just in case ..... As a further precaution though, I would like to know if someone who went through a similar experience, can give me a heads up of how to avoid messing up my Linux installation again. Secondly, I would like to know if Mint is a good way to go for my purpose or should I use a different or other more game-compatible distro - if any?
The amount of different opinions and guides on Google is overwhelming and mostly subjective. (Confusing also comes to mind)
I would appreciate any help you can offer or reference to a reliable guide for Linux newbs.
Thanks
Bossie

Not knowing your system, I would start with 13 XFCE- it will talk you through the install- have internet available/ install/ update and then enjoy
