[SOLVED] Bluetooth not detected LM 17

Post by 0ddity »

Linux Mint 17 Cinnamon 64

Dell Studio XPS 1647

Did a bunch of googling, not much success because what I found, people said it was working.

On my latop no bluetooth device is detected.

Code: Select all

jereme@Lappy ~ $ sudo hcitool scan
Device is not available: No such device
jereme@Lappy ~ $ sudo hcitool dev
Devices:
Installed Blueman BT manager. On first run, I get an error "bluetooth turned off" "bluetooth needs to be turned on for the device manager to function." There is no hardware switch for BT unless it is shared with Wifi, which is on and working.

Yes, it worked in Windows 7, only used it once but it did pair and function with my device.

can't see it.
Did you check in the bios if it is enabled? on Dell bios you really have to look hard because the switch can be for one the other or both and it needs to be enabled.

This is the only BT option in my BIOS:

It was set to disabled, I changed it to enabled. Then I ran the first 3 commands again, with this output:

Code: Select all

jereme@Lappy ~ $ rfkill list
0: phy0: Wireless LAN
	Soft blocked: no
	Hard blocked: no
1: hci0: Bluetooth
	Soft blocked: no
	Hard blocked: no

Code: Select all

Bus 002 Device 010: ID 413c:8158 Dell Computer Corp. Integrated Touchpad / Trackstick
Bus 002 Device 009: ID 413c:8157 Dell Computer Corp. Integrated Keyboard

Bus 002 Device 012: ID 18d1:4e22 Google Inc. Nexus S (debug)
Bus 002 Device 002: ID 8087:0020 Intel Corp. Integrated Rate Matching Hub

Bus 001 Device 001: ID 1d6b:0002 Linux Foundation 2.0 root hub

Code: Select all

jereme@Lappy ~ $ dmesg | grep -i bluetooth
[ 20.817056] usb 2-1.6.3: Product: Dell Wireless 370 Bluetooth Mini-card
[ 20.831395] Bluetooth: Core ver 2.17

[ 21.016870] Bluetooth: RFCOMM socket layer initialized
[ 21.016878] Bluetooth: RFCOMM ver 1.11

So it looks like it is up and running now, which is awesome. Now I just need to figure out how to pair it with my PS3 controller, which neither Blueman or the default Bluetooth manager are detecting. Still, progress! Thanks a lot guys, glad it was something so simple.
