The download asks which distribution is required. Which one should I choose?

Hello !

I had the same problem this sunday morning.
Skype's password was refused on linux (but it worked perfectly on android and win7).
And at noon, i see i get an automatic update of Mint and saw there was an upgrade of Skype in the list of all updates. (from 4.2 to 4.3)

Now it works perfectly !
So be patient few minutes :)

don't know you didn't tell if you use Maya (Mint13) 32 or 64 bit?
So for skype use 32 if 32 bit and 64 if 64 bit.

then again skype is 32 bit so ubuntu 12.04 is the one.

Ubuntu distribution downloaded and installed but when launching skype the version still shows 4.2 and skype can't connect. The 4.2 version was removed before installing 4.3

Been using Skype 4.2 in Mint13 for ages. No problems at all until updated to 4.3 yesterday. Now Video at the receiving end stutters and freezes and audio is missing every second word.

If I switch my camera off, audio at the receiving end is then fine and clear. I can see the other party clearly. As soon as I switch my camera on again, the symptoms resume. It seems 4.3 has broken my working 4.2 install. Has anyone experienced problems with this upgrade and if so any clues how to fix.

I removed 4.2 using Synaptic before installing 4.3. However, on another machine with Mint17 installed and which has never had Skype on it, I installed 4.3 and it now exhibits the same stuttering and symptoms as my Mint 13 machine. Something in 4.3 has introduced a bug and broken what was going perfectly for me.

Same issue. Solution was reinstalling skype... and waiting from yesterday till today, when it started working again.
(weird thing is it kept working on windows. I could also access my account using the firefox. So, it was a linux-only issue)

EDIT:* I am running LMDE with Skype 4.2.
I use a Debian derivative which is based on Testing with many packages up to date. I have no problem running Skype 4.3. I also have a partition with Ubuntu Gnome (shell) and Skype running on that fine - I have to check the version. I decided to log into skype with LMDE since I'm getting annoyed with Gnome shell again. Getting tired of the Gnome 3/Unity thing. I was okay with it before but now it's getting on my nerves. Can these Desktop Environment developers just get together with a group and pick a SEPARATE one to do their fancy effects and mobile devices design stuff?!? Then have a DE that is for desktops?!?

Anyway, the Mint OS I'm using is the only one in which I have a problem with skype not connecting. Internet is working, Firefox/Ice Weasel connects etc. etc. Speed is okay. I didn't think there would be a problem with the Main edition of Mint, though. Mint 17, too? Maybe it's Mint's servers?

P.S. There is an option to upgrade Skype to 4.3 in the Main Edition (e.g. Mint 17)? Not so in LMDE.

Skype 4.2 on my Ubuntu 14.04 install wasn't connecting (after it was logged out). I just checked. I now think the problem is with Skype 4.2 - in Linux, though, probably. Still, I don't know how to upgrade to 4.3 in LMDE unless I download the latest from skype website. (Or do the trick in which you enable Mint edition repo?). In Ubuntu 14.04, there was an option to upgrade from 4.2 to 4.3. I am using the i386 version as there was another Skype listed to install 4.3.

I guess one could enable a Debian Testing or sid repo to get a more up-to-date skype (i.e. 4.3?)?

I am under Mint 17 and was surprised skype 4.2 can't connect also. After reading this thread I updated skype to ver. 4.3 thru update manager.
It now works again. Haven't tried doing calls yet, but the chat portion works fine.

After purge remove skype and installing it again Skype crashes few seconds after logging in.

I got hit with the 'Skype can't connect' bug this morning.

I uninstalled the current (4.2) version using 'Software manager'.

I downloaded the 4.3 version from the Skype web site. I chose the Ubuntu 12.04 multiarch version. I installed it by right clicking and choosing 'GDebi package installer'. I also rebooted, which was necessary. Problem solved.
