Just started with mint

Post by lostmycat »

I've been using Ubuntu for several years, and even got used to the Unity thing. I got curious about various distros while I was watching a thread in an Ubuntu forum "how did you get intu Linux?" So many other than Ubuntu distros were mentioned and it made me curious. Besides, I was tired of the Unity destop which was like getting everything done and no control left for me. I had a "live" dvd from Linux User magazine. I tried all four distros that were on it - Fedora, Mageia 4, openSuse 13, and Mint 17. I liked Mint, but after the installer crashed 3 times with 2 minutes to go, I went with an image I burned from the ISO of Mint 17.1 which I had downloaded a few days before. It worked, and I installed Mint alongside Ubuntu. I'm liking Mint, and enjoying loading on programs that I need or want. I've added some Lightscribe software, as well as a few games, and some add-ons or extensions for Firefox. I just finished watching a movie, and I didn't need to search for the codecs like I did when I started using Ubuntu. I think I will be using Mint as the main OS for my computer, since it came loaded with the office programs I need for everyday use. :D

Welcome,

Good choice. The Mint is a very special Linux distro aimed to make it simpler and elegant. As much as I ALSO love Ubuntu, I just cant get away from Mint and is my main OS on 2 laptops and a desktop
