Text editors
None of those text editors are suitable for my needs. At the moment I am making do with Kate. I really need a program like Notepad++ or EditPlus. Multiple pages open at the same time, working accross them and them opening every time. HMTL and CSS support.
Notepad++ for linux would be ideal, and a "Mintpad++" (Linux Mint) versions even better.
Graphics editors
None of these graphics editors meet my needs. Paint.NET is ideal, a well balanced mix of simplicity, user friendliness and power. I have found Pinta, and it looks promising, albeit two years old and simple.
A Linux Mint version of Pinta, "Minta", would be good.

Most importantly of all, Linux Mint 17 is a better operating system than Windows 7:
1. Install and it just works
2. Install and it is up to date, no need to download masses of updates
3. No need to go near the terminal (that is the Bees Knees! haha)
4. No need to race to install a better firewall or set up the Windows 7 one
5. No need to race to install an antivirus
6. No need to stop programs calling home
7. No need worry about malicious programs
8. No need to deal with Internet Explorer
9. No need to install a third party windows manager, Explorer++ (which is excellent)
10. No need to prefer portable applications, to minimize the workload if/when Windows 7 goes "Blue Screen"
11. Software delivered on a silver platter, Linux Mint "Software Manager"
12. Much faster and responsive operating system, Linux Mint 17 > Windows 7
13. No need to move to a hybrid Windows 7/8.1 with Windows 10 - no benefit at all to standard Windows 7 like needs
14. Modern, well designed, fully competitive, best in class operating system ... Linux Mint 17
15. Not enough AAA games, but things are changing
Linux Mint is everything Ubuntu could have been, should have been, but poor decisions ... a horrid interface

Windows 10 will be the frankenstein of operating systems, a little bit of this (desktop), a little bit of that (tablet) and master of none ... everything one doesn't need will be seen as BLOAT. Can M$ survive two failed operating systems in a row?
In the meantime, Linux Mint should challenge Windows 7 users to test this for themselves. It is still to early to call it, but every sign is that Linux Mint 17 will consistently beat Windows 7 in everything except games and that is enough, the tipping point. Linux Mint needs some aggressive marketing, comparison benchmarks with Windows 7 ... heaps of side by side tests, and THAT will make Windows 7 users aware that Linux is finally ready.
No Linux distro could match Windows XP. Ubuntu was the favourite, but it is Linux Mint 17 that defeated Windows 7 as the better operating system. Windows 10 will not add anything worthwhile to Windows 7, and yet Linux Mint 17 will continue to improve.
When people look back, it will arguably be Linux Mint 17 that will be remembered as the turning point. I challenge any Windows 7 user to dispute this ... I have used Windows 7 for years and M$ for decades. This is an historic moment in desktop operating systems, a changing of the guard.
