I am running Mint 17.1 with the Mate desktop and I'm trying to figure out how to change the "Quit" button to say "Shutdown" instead. I've looked all over and have not found a way to do this. Anyone know how?
Thanks!

there is more than a real probability, that
that message is hard coded / or a fixed message,
that cannot be changed.
- at least by the end user.

Re: Rename Quit Button - Mate Desktop
Do you mean the button on the Mint Menu? The one on what's called Main Mate Menu in the "add to panel" list says shutdown instead of quit if you'd want to use that menu instead. Or there's also a neat individual shutdown button in the same list.

Core ui text is probably in the (for example in cinnamon):
/usr/share/cinnamon/locale/<yourlocale>/cinnamon.mo
But the language files are stored as machine object files and are not readable.

That is a good work around - thank you for pointing that out!I Know Nothing wrote:Do you mean the button on the Mint Menu? I'd like to thank you too, I Know Nothing. This is exactly what I have been trying to find out how to do (add Quit [aka: Shutdown] to the panel). Finding this saved me from creating a new thread. Why is this so hidden in MATE?I Know Nothing wrote:
