Elyssa XFCE CE Update

Post by merlwiz79 »

I have uploaded a iso for testing.
Current size is 670.7MBs.
Found many things not needed to be installed.
Removed Sunbird(is in the Repo) and replaced with lightning extension 0.8 for Thunderbird.
Fixed problems with Firefox by adding Firefox gnome support.
It had no default programs to open files with.
Fixed emailto links and open in folder by making a new package with xfce defaults for Firefox.
Fixed memory usage in Firefox by purging xulrunner and deleting files it left and reinstalling Firefox.

Best,

Sorry, private testing by the development team.
You will see the announcement on the Main page if it's a public release.
The testing might be done this weekend.

Thanks for the update. It makes so much difference knowing what specific things you have been doing. I for one cant wait to install this and ditch Xubuntu.

Well most of the things I have created don't have German translations.
If you select German as the language during install everything else will be in German.

Good news. I'm looking forward to updating my Daryna XFCE. The XFCE desktop has just the right mix of functionality for me. :D
I really like the right click menu, and the ability to wiz thro desktops with the mouse pointer.

Allow me to say that you are doing a terrific job Merlwiz79.
I have been recently using Daryna Xfce in an older PC. I never thought i would like it so much.
To make it even lighter, I removed Open Office and installed Abiword.
Daryna Xfce has been behaving perfectly. I also like the looks of it (nice colors).

Keep up the good work Merlwiz79.
Cheers,
npap

Changes made by clem:
• In sources.list, commented 3rd party repos.
• apt-get install gtk2-engines-candido
• apt-get install vlc
• changed default DVD handler to VLC
• removed launcher, separator and pager in /etc/xdg/xfce4/panel/panels.xml and put the mixer on the complete right.
• changed default theme to Elyssa
• changed default window borders to Gilouche
• added "XFCE" in "EDITION" in /etc/linuxmint/info
• replaced splashes for OpenOffice in xfceMintDesktop and openoffice.
• replaced splash for gimp in gimp and xfcemintDesktop
• wanted to apply emblems to home folders but thunar is using some database file for that... was too messy to mess with it :)
• mintUpdate-xfce was removed, mintUpdate was reinstalled (because I saw no reason for it to act or look different than in other editions).
• Exaile was downgraded from 0.2.13 to 0.2.11 (because plugins didn't work in the latest version).
Now is released as beta 025.

Ok this was posted a month ago, the weekend has come and gone. We got a beta release out of it...
It's now Wednesday 1 month latter... What's going on with this edition / release guys?

I'm begining to think this release is vaporware.

The frontpage and blog state that the ISO is waiting to be uploaded to xploder for testing... (Give me the damn thing, I'll upload it to him.) that was posted on Agust, 1st it is now Agust 6th. (A whole work week latter.) At least give us a status report, and don't leave us in the dark.

I mean, even the problematic KDE CE beta was finnally released; what could be the hold up?

I believe it was David Carradine who used to say, "patience, grasshopper".

Mmm... a grasshopper... one of those would be a very on-topic way of achieving zen-like patience on a hot day.
