All I can say ... that the 'Live-DVD ' kernel and 'installed' kernel are NOT the same.
The 'Live" .iso are for testing; if you want this OS-distro version ...
Perhaps, you need to install Mint-17.1 KDE?

just asking - did you check the MD5 checksum of the 17.1 ISO - before you used it??.
- you can get some mighty weird errors, if that ISO is not correct.
