xine 1.1.4*

Post by matva » Sun Feb 25, 2007 6:59 pm

When i play DVDs in totem-xine, the audio is out of sync.
DMA is on.

I have the same problem in the latest ubuntu. I did a search and found this thread:

I guess the sync problem is a bug, and it is fixed in xine 1.1.4?

I would like to try 1.1.4 for myself to see if this is true, but i dont want to compile it manually as described in the forum link above. Is there a package available somewhere for 1.4.4 that i'm not seeing? If not, when will one be available? I think totem > mplayer, vlc , etc, but i can't use it if it is going to play out-of-sync.

i dont know of any package for it, but its easy enough to compile. he spells out the instructions, on how to do it, or if you can wait for feisty fawn to be released, its out in just over a month and has xine 1.1.4 already in it.

sync bugs in xine-lib 1.1.2

Post by tinny » Thu Mar 29, 2007 10:19 pm

xine-lib 1.1.2 has known sync bugs. One remedy is to upgrade to xine-lib 1.1.4 This fixes audio-video sync bugs, but the later version of xine engine does not play Real media files. So while you fix the sync bugs in DVD playback, you might also lose playback of Real audio and video files. (If totem won't open after the upgrade, you might try upgrading libgcrypt to libgcrypt 1.2.3 as well, as this seems to fix xine in Vector Linux.) See the release notes for xine-lib 1.1.4...

"This release contains improvements and important bugfixes.
Some issues that have really "bugged" us for quite some
time (like NTSC DVDs audio sync, broken since 1.1.2, and
H.264 crashes) are finally fixed." ... _id=482174

EDIT: I see now youre ahead of me, and actually worried about breaking things if you upgrade the xine engine. Ubuntu and Mint should get on the stick and fix DVD playback in Totem, cuz it sux with that sync problem. As it is now, Totem is unusable, with xinelib 1.1.2

VLC plays DVDs a lot like Xine. You might try getting VLC.
