MDB Tools missing driver

Post by Taffman »

I am trying to get odbc working with Microsoft Access mdb files. I have installed MDB Tools and unixODBC from synaptic. It seels that the required libmdbodbc.so driver is missing or stored in a location where I cant find it. Can anyone tell me how I get hold of a valid driver for this please?

A little googling showed that it's in the package named libmdbodbc1. Install it.

Thanks for this, I've now installed it using "apt-get install libmdbodbc1" but I don't know where it was installed. any idea how I find out where that would be?
using

Code: Select all

$ sudo find / -name 'libmdbodbc1'
this tells me the file is located at:

Code: Select all

/usr/share/doc/libmdbodbc1
But MDBTools cant find it here and neither can I if I navigate to the directory and look for it?

Code: Select all

apt content libmdbodbc1
will show you all the files that are in the package.

But something tells me that MDB Tools and/or unixODBC should find it automatically once it's installed...

Thanks for this, this command shows:

$ apt content libmdbodbc1
/.

Code: Select all

/usr
/usr/lib
/usr/lib/i386-linux-gnu
/usr/lib/i386-linux-gnu/odbc
/usr/lib/i386-linux-gnu/odbc/libmdbodbc.so.1.0.0
/usr/share
/usr/share/doc
/usr/share/doc/libmdbodbc1
/usr/share/doc/libmdbodbc1/copyright
/usr/share/lintian
/usr/share/lintian/overrides
/usr/share/lintian/overrides/libmdbodbc1
/usr/lib/i386-linux-gnu/odbc/libmdbodbc.so.1
/usr/share/doc/libmdbodbc1/changelog.Debian.gz
But if I reference this driver in my .ini files to

Code: Select all

/usr/share/doc/libmdbodbc1
I can't find it?

In your first post you referenced to "libmdbodbc.so". I think that means you can answer your own question :)

Well I've tried referencing

Code: Select all

/usr/lib/i386-linux-gnu/odbc/libmdbodbc.so.1
in my odbc.ini file but that doesn't work either.

OK I've got Libra Office Base to upen an ODBC connection using

Code: Select all

/usr/lib/i386-linux-gnu/odbc/libmdbodbc.so
I can see the tables and queries in my mdb file but each time I go ot open any of them Libre Office Base closes without reporting any errors.
Is this the best driver to use or is there a more stable one ?

MDB Tools doesn't work at all ?
