For those interested, ATI have released a beta 14.1 driver available here: http://support.amd.com/en-us/kb-article ... river.aspx
This a beta driver so may not be entirely stable. However, I have had no issues with it on my 5870
Installing on mint is simple:
download the .tar.gz, extract the .run file then:
Code: Select all
chmod +x amd-driver-installer-13.35.1005-x86.x86_64.run
It's a beta driver so be careful but for me this has fixed all the display glitches/issues I've had including: Tearing in videos, antialiasing not working in some games and a few display glitches in KDE.

The installation of the newest AMD Catalyst Driver, which is now 14.6 Beta, corrected the display issues in my old AMD Radeon HD 5450 as well. (It was crashing sometimes after returning from system hibernation.) I'm running Mint 17.1 Cinnamon 64. Thanks to the original poster for the link to the driver, and those command snippets to install it. Very helpful.
