Yesterday I installed the LXDE desktop into my LMDE Cinnamon system using the Software Manager.
Since then I've been unable to run the Synaptic Package Manager, the Software Manager, and the Update Manager, not on the LXDE desktop or the Cinnamon desktop.
(The following URLs are spit with /n after ...linuxmint.com to show the full URL).
The Synaptic Package Manager errors are:

it wasn't LXDE that broke "things"
the repositories are down (momentarily) and no, you don't need to reinstall because of that.
wait until it's fixed.
