[SOLVED] cust and paste canceled files lost

Post by badams_ios »

Using Dolphin, I was trying to organize my files and folders and cut a folder from /Downloads, to paste to /Downloads/iso

I realized I had selected the wrong folder for the paste and canceled. Now the files I cut are gone.

What to do, what to do?

Unfortunately I don't know how to get them back...will leave that to someone smarter. :D But I suspect the root problem is that you cut instead of copied. (Just a fly-by-night guess, you might be able to see them if you click "view" in the file manager and select "view hidden items" In Cinnamon you can do this with ctrl+h, but it sounds like you're using a different desktop)
Sorry I can't help any more.

'Paste' doesn't still appear as an option? It should, unless you have cut/copy/pasted something else in the meantime.

Good! Please remember to mark this thread as "SOLVED" so others who have the same problem can see what you did!
(Now I need to learn what "cut" does. Never used it.)

Move as apposed to copy. If it's used on the same drive it's fast. Just re-writes the location of where the data is at, on the "allocation table" (for lack of a better term) not actually "moving" the files to another location on the drive. Like re-writing the index. If you cut and paste from one drive to another, say a flash drive, it's more like copying to the flash drive and deleting the original location, thus taking much longer.

So how does one mark this solved?

I hope that's the right way to mark it solved. It's be nice to be able to give credit to whomever solved it. I'm sure there are many more questions in me that I'd want to thanks another for solving.
