XScreenSaver settings in Cinnamon

Post by jcarr »

I'm loving the integration of webkit and xscreensaver into the Cinnamon screensaver setup (Mint 17.2). However, I'm having trouble figuring out how to apply custom xscreensaver settings. First of all, the xscreensaver settings don't show up at all in the Cinnamon screensaver dialog. Then, if I pull up the XScreenSaver Preferences dialog and make changes there, they don't seem to be picked up by Cinnamon. I also tried tweaking the /usr/share/applications/xscreensaver-properties.desktop and /home/{user}/.xscreensaver files, but Cinnamon ignores those too.

Specifically, I want to tweak the GLText screensaver to display the output from a script (e.g., "gltext -root -spin 0 -program /path/to/script"). This is simple in XFCE, but I can't figure it out in Cinnamon.

This has worked to allow the glslideshow screensaver to locate the correct directory for my pics. But it does not seem to recognize any of the changes I make in most of the other settings - movement, fading, etc. In the xscreensaver-demo app the preview reflects all my changes correctly, but when it starts automatically it does not.
