Bug message on boot {Solved for sure}

Post by Prsman »

I installed Cinnamon 18 and it works. I noticed I have a error message during boot.

MP-Bios bug: 8254 timer not connected to IO-APIC
[ 1.2514651] powernow_k8: [Firmware Bug]: No Compatible ACPI _PSS objects found
[ 1.2514651] [Firmware Bug]: First,make sure Cool'N'Quiet is enabled in the Bios
[ 1.2514651] [Firmware Bug]: If that doesn't help, try upgrading your Bios

I did a search and found to add noapic to the boot line. The other bug, I found pages of code for the kernal. My mobo manuf help desk says my Bios should work with any version on Linux. But they list different chipset and drivers for Linux. What to do? My computer is working so do I leave it alone?

I have at least one computer that presents that same error message. It doesn't seem to affect the operation of the computer, and I have read some of the people who know more about that sort of thing than I do say that it is harmless. So, no need to worry about the first one. I'm sorry, I can't help you with the others, but somebody here probably can.

Re: Bug message on boot {Solved]

Got a letter from my mobo support tech.

This MP-Bios bug: 8254 timer not connected to IO-APIC is related to the graphics. So, please configure a graphic driver.

[Firmware bug]: powernow-k8: No compatible ACPI _PSS object found - indicates the CPU throttling. Please enable the Cool'N'Quiet option in the BIOS and also update the BIOS to the latest version.

The first bug, I did install and configure the Nvidia driver. Maybe I should do it again after I upgrade the Bios.
Hope this helps anyone with the same boot error message.

Last update for sure. So I updated my Bios to the latest version. Program wrote the Bin file and rebooted. And dead. Nothing, no post, video, nothing.
Emailed tech support again. They said to pull the on board battery for 30 seconds, reinstall and boot. Did it and computer booted in Bios. Did the settings,
saved and rebooted and now no error message. :D Hope this helps.
