apache2 segfault after update

Post by patrickmj »

Today (Aug 11 2016) I followed along with some notifications about system updates for 17.3 Rosa. After I did that, apache2 won't start. There were some notices about changes to some config files (/etc/issues was one, I think -- I didn't pay much attention and just clicked through)

Tried

Code: Select all

service apache2 restart
and got

Code: Select all

 * Restarting web server apache2 [fail]
 * The apache2 configtest failed.
Output of config test was:
Segmentation fault (core dumped)
Action 'configtest' failed.
The Apache error log may have more information.
Nothing in /var/log/apache2/errors.log

But

Code: Select all

apache2 -- version
gives me

Code: Select all

I should note that a couple weeks ago I added the PPA for PHP 7, but had no issues until this update today. I don't think that'd be the issue at apache2 level, but just in case it gives insight, there it is.

Any guidance toward what to try to put back together much appreciated. Thanks.

UPDATE

After retracing my steps, turns out it was probably PHP7 being there after all.

Per https://petermoulding.com/php-7-on-linu ... and-ubuntu , there's these instructions:

Code: Select all

Delete php5.conf and php5.load from directory mods-enabled
Looks like the update recreated those files. Redeleting them and restarting apache2 did the trick.

Sorry to bother you.
