[SOLVED] No sound after using Firefox

Post by MPE2016 » Mon Oct 17, 2016 12:03 pm

After playing video or audio in Firefox, I can no longer play any music or audio in other applications, such as VLC, Banshee or Xplayer. I can bring the audio back by using the following commands:

Code: Select all

killall pulseaudio
pulseaudio -k
This, however, is rather laborious. Furthermore, when using another browser such as Chromium, the problem does not exist.

I have not found any solutions for this on other forums, such as this excellent forum, askubuntu or superuser.

Help is very much appreciated, and many thanks in advance!

Is there any chance you're running Firefox in firejail?

I totally forgot about that. Indeed, I was running firefox in firejail. Without firejail it runs fine.

My firejail surfing days are over, thanks for helping me out!

You don't have to remove firejail if you don't want. In fact, I would highly encourage you to continue using firejail as a security precaution (though the choice, of course, is yours).
What you describe is a known bug with pulseaudio that has a very simple fix.
https://firejail.wordpress.com/support/ ... pulseaudio

Code: Select all

mkdir -p ~/.config/pulse
cd ~/.config/pulse
cp /etc/pulse/client.conf .
echo "enable-shm = no" >> client.con
And reboot.

That's it!

To undo this:

Code: Select all

cd ~
rm -rf ~/.config/pulse

Thanx for the advice and the reply.

I tried it, however, and it doesn't make a difference. No worries, I'm a happy camper without firejail!
