Unable to locate package mintupgrade

Post by chickenbait » Sat Dec 03, 2016 1:08 pm

I was following these guides:
(with pics) http://www.tecmint.com/upgrade-linux-mi ... x-mint-18/
(official guide) https://community.linuxmint.com/tutorial/view/2316

I have done all the steps until the mintupgrade part. Here is what I've tried:

Code: Select all

$ sudo apt install mintupgrade
Reading package lists... Done
Building dependency tree
Reading state information... Done
E: Unable to locate package mintupgrade

$ sudo apt-get install mintupgrade
Reading package lists... Done
Building dependency tree
Reading state information... Done
E: Unable to locate package mintupgrade
My software sources are pointed at:

Code: Select all

Main (quina) http://packages.linuxmint.com
Base (trusty) http://archive/ubuntu.com/ubuntu
How do I get mintupgrade?

C2. Linux Mint 17.3 Cinnamon, MATE or Xfce edition

The upgrade tool only upgrades Linux Mint 17.3 Cinnamon, MATE or Xfce edition.

If you are running Linux Mint 17, 17.1 or 17.2, you first need to upgrade to Linux Mint 17.3 using the Update Manager.

The KDE edition isn't upgradable (Linux Mint 18 KDE will use a new and different desktop called Plasma).
It appears you are using LM17 and not LM17.3

How do I upgrade from 17 to 17.3? Is there a community wiki? Do I have to upgrade in sequence from 17... 17.1 ... 17.2 .... 17.3?

See http://blog.linuxmint.com/?p=2955
You should be able to upgrade right to 17.3

Be noted, that mintupgrade has several issues. You should better do a fresh installation of Mint 18.
