In mint 17.3 the MATE-sensors-applet displays the hdd/ssd temperatures using 'udisks' but on trying mint 18.1 udisks isn't an option.
I've installed hddtemp and reconfigured it appropriately and this displays fine but isn't this insecure or am I just being paranoid?
Is it possible to use udisks, if so how or is this no longer an option?
The image below is what I get on 18.1 whereas in 17.3 hddtemp is replace by udisks which doesn't require su privileges:

Re: MATE sensors applet in mint 18.1 udisks
From further searching it seems that udisks is obsolete and depends on the distro whether udisk2 is called or not.
So for the moment I'm assuming LM18.1 doesn't rely on udisks2.

Re: MATE sensors applet in mint 18.1
Have since reconfigured hddtemp to not allow su privileges and this works and should be secure:
sudo dpkg-reconfigure hddtemp
select No for raised privileges at the first prompt. This negates the need for udisks.
Paranoid mode off for now.
