Update Manager Problem

Postby Dulciman » Mon Mar 20, 2017 2:46 pm

Toshiba Laptop, Mint 17.3 32 bit, Cinnamon Ver. 2.8.8

Trying to use the update manager when I click on Install Updates the window changes to lite gray and then back, no prompt for password. Where do I proceed to?

Have you tried clicking the "Refresh" button, before you click the "Update" button ?

Does this terminal command give any errors ? Please copy the complete error output (if any) and paste back here.

It will ask for your password, and when you enter your password, the terminal will not show text, dots, or anything, this is normal. Just enter your password blindly, hit Enter, and the command will execute.

apt update

That shows everything is fine under the hood. :?

Are you having any problems with opening/logging in to Synaptic Package Manager or the Software Manager ? I'm trying to determine if the problem is general, or specific to Mint Update.

Do you get any error messages when you open Synaptic with terminal in either gksudo or without? Other than the not running in root message if you do it without.

Code: Select all

gksudo synaptic

I'm having problems with the update manager and getting errors whenever I update. As soon as I close the error message, it tells me that I am updated. This is in Mate edition. I also have Cinnamon running in a separate installation and it's running fine. The following is what I get:

Code: Select all

chasm@M4A88-960t ~ $ sudo apt-get update

Can someone shed some light on this situation? I guess I can reinstall if need be.

No need to reinstall, its a warning only and it says that you have more than one entry for the same repository that you've added. (added twice)
You can run 'Software Sources' and delete multiple entries from both the PPA and Additional repositories sections.
Note that each repository that you've added normally has two entries, a binary and a source, (deb and deb-src) these are not multiple entries.

Thank you to greerd. I had several instances of the same repository. After I deleted them the update manager operates flawlessly. Thank you so much.
