Post by ultim0 » Mon Apr 17, 2017 6:26 am

Hello Mints!

I`m absolutely new to Linux and i`ve already Problems with it ;]
device: Lenovo Thinkpad T470 20HES0FX00
Linux: Linux Mint 18.1 Cinnamon 64-bit
issue: can`t connect to any Wifi, it seems that the wireless lan part of the dual band card isn`t working

already tried:
- copy/paste the resprective firmware in lib/firmware (from http://www.intel.de/content/www/de/de/s ... 05511.html)
- (install windows 10 - failed at removing the linux boot manager  )
- fix it with the packport 4.4.2 according to this instruction: http://www.everydaylinuxuser.com/2016/0 ... es-on.html
with 8265-22.ucode instead of 8000c-16.ucode

Use the Update Manager to install a 4.8 or 4.10 kernel and reboot

Newer kernels aren't always the answer and can cause issues but in this case your wifi is supported in Linux Mint/Ubuntu kernels 4.8 and newer.

I would like to be able to use backports on the 4.4.0 LM kernel as the 4.4 LM kernel is supported until 2021 but the 4.10 kernel will not be supported after January 2018
