Dell USB Type-C Docking Station

Post by Trakanon » Sat Dec 09, 2017 1:06 am

Hello and greetings from Miami.

I use a Dell Latitude 7480 as my work computer running Mint 18.2 - it's an awesome little laptop. I'm interested in getting the oem docking station for this laptop that connects via USB Type-C for extra ports and 2 external displays, however im apprehensive that it will as advertised with Linux Mint please let me know what you all think.

The laptop already has many USB ports.
If it's just to connect to external displays, you can easily find an USB-C to VGA/HDMI adapter for way much less than the cost of this docking station. You can also add an ethernet to USB adapter and you will still be at a fraction of the price of this expensive station.

I have a laptop with a USB-C port and an adapter to USB3+VGA, and that works perfectly under linux.
(well the first adapter I got didnt work, but that's because it was defectuous. It didnt work either in windows)
I have tested it can handle using both port simultaneously. e.g. having a second screen and writing to a USB external hard drive, or booting a live USB + external screen, or adding a ethernet to USB adapter to connect to internet.
In your case the docking station has even more outputs, but I think it should also work.

Hello Trakanon,
if you want to move often with it (such at meeting in or outside your company, i'd rather suggest this kind of usb HUB

To me, it's the best solution when you want to add more port to your computer

Hope it helps
