installing lmde to T470p

Hello guys,
I have been happy user of lmde for years now, however I never had to resolve issue like I am facing now: when I plug the live usb to my new box (Lenovo T470p), it's not showing any network adapter.
lshw shows 2 UNCLAIMED adapters. I told myself, I will try to install from usb only, and resolve network issue after system is installed, however trying this I faced another issue - newly installed system won't boot - when I digged deeper, I found, /sys/firmware/efi/efivars is empty ... which I admit I have no explanation for.
I tried to use linuxmint 18 which works out of the box (except for fingerprint reader), however that's I would prefer using lmde
any ideas how to deal with this?
