SECURE/PRIVACY respecting messaging/txting tools ?

Post by infinaurakle » Fri May 18, 2018 11:19 am

Hi there everyone ...
Quick question please ~
I'm looking for a chat or text service for Linux Mint DESKTOP version like SIGNAL that protects privacy ...

Apparently Signal is not available for LM ... but there are instructions here for other Linux versions :
https://support.signal.org/hc/en-us/articles/214507138
I tried installing an older version on Mint that never worked ~:(~

this is an OUT OF DATE scorecard for other software (from my understanding) that may be used between texts on mobiles and desktops for secure communications :
https://www.eff.org/node/82654
but wondering if a more UPDATED list exists that WORKS for LM ?

AND ... if Signal is impossible for Mint, is there ANY other one that members use here, or that is widely used/approved by journalists and other professionals that prefer NOT to be tracked ???

your feedback on this would be much appreciated ~ღ~
thanks very much

Those instructions are for Ubuntu Xenial 16.04 - I've not tested but they should apply for Mint 18.x which is based on Xenial.

thanks very much smurphos ~:D~
it WORKED ...

but dang I feel really dumb now ~:S~
cause I NEVER noticed this before, but apparently you need a mobile device ...
as stated here :
https://support.signal.org/hc/en-us/art ... l-Desktop-

grgrgrgRRR ~:(((~

being as that Skype has left Linux users OUT of their capacity with their latest versions... well ~
so be it if they are snobs, and better for us if they are now part of the tracking monsters ...

BUTTT ~
what is everyone using now to chat from desktop to desktop without having a mobile ???
Linux users don't have a Facetime or chatting type of software/tool except Pidgin ?

anyone ?
