Mint 19 Boot issue [SOLVED]
Hi there,
I decided to upgrade to Cinnamon 19 from MATE 18.3 on my Thinkpad X1 (1st one). The boot used to be blazing fast with 18.3, taking only around ten seconds, but the Mint 19 boot is having a nagging issue. The boot process would start the same, but instead of showing the desktop at the end, black screen shows up as though it's sleeping. I can only get it to desktop after about a minute, and only after pressing and clicking wildly and randomly.
I see other people having slow boot issues as well, but my hardware isn't that old and there's no slow boot problem when I tested with Manjaro KDE.
Any suggestions?

Please post the output of this terminal command:
Code: Select all

Here you go
EDIT: I forgot to add that I am now on Mint 19 MATE and I'm having the same issues as Cinnamon even though it is a bit faster (as expected).
Code: Select all

Re: Mint 19 Boot issue
I've also included 'systemd-analyze blame' result just in case someone asks. I don't think there's any issue there.

Re: Mint 19 Boot issue
But I just installed it? It's the same with both Cinnamon and MATE. It was the first thing I checked when I installed MATE.

do a timeshift before doing critical changes.

Re: Mint 19 Boot issue
I apologize, my wording must have caused a confusion. When I say upgrade, I meant change to the new release. I did a clean install of Mint 19 cinnamon first, then I did a clean install of the MATE version. The only thing I did after the clean install was to do the software update and sudo apt-get update on terminal before doing a restart to check the issue.
Re: Mint 19 Boot issue
Did it already boot slowly the first time right after you installed it, or only the second time after you applied all updates?
If only the second time: The kernel -24 has been causing trouble for many people. I don't know what the problem is exactly because personally I had no trouble with that kernel version. What you do is you press shift at boot time right at the start (after BIOS screen ends, before the Mint logo comes up) to get into the GRUB boot menu, select the advances option there and go with the -20 kernel version. Then, once booted, and assuming you booted fine, go to Software Manager > View > Linux Kernels and remove the -24 kernel.
You can update up to the -23 kernel (best done via the package manager) but skip the -24 kernel, wait for a fixed -25 to come out.

Re: Mint 19 Boot issue
Thanks gm10!
That was exactly the issue. I guess I'll wait for the next kernel.

Re: Mint 19 Boot issue [SOLVED]
I have the same problem on my Dell Latitude D830 when I installed Linux Mint 19. I went back and reinstalled Linux Mint 18.3 and have no problems.
