mkchromcast on Mint 18.3 / no sound

Problem: I cannot get mkchromecast working on 18.3

I have tried python and python3, and both times it's the same problem -- no sound.

The option 'mkchromcast' shows up in the sound config options, but when I choose it, no sound comes out.

On an old computer, using Lubuntu 18.04, mkchromecast works just fine. There is a Debian and an Ubuntu .deb for mkchromecast, but sadly there is not one for Linux Mint.

Otherwise, the Chromecast device is working just fine from the Google Chrome browser and from VLC (which was a Chromecast option too).
