Linux Mint 19 - Hard freeze

Post by akred3 » Sun Aug 12, 2018 4:34 pm

Hello everyone,

I have an issue regarding my new fresh installation of the last version on LM 19 (actually, the second one because I try to find why).
I have done the last updates through the- update manager.
It happens quite frequently and my computer freeze completely (no mouse, no ctrl-alt-f1, nothing).
I have to hard reboot completely.

I have check /var/log/syslog and journalctl -b -1, but I have nothing special here.

Do you know where I can find some information please ?

Thanks.

Check if any partition is occupied more than 85%.If so manage the space to be less than 85%
If I have helped you solve a problem, please add [SOLVED] to your first post title, it helps other users looking for help, and keeps the forum clean.
I am using Mint 19 Cinnamon 64 bit with AMD A8/7410 processor . Memory 8GB

that error means that the BIOS has failed to find the internal drive,
& so is requesting that you insert an usb stick, so it can now boot from that, instead.
:)
try powering Off the machine, and reboot it, to see if that error still exists.

What is your computer brand and model.? Or please provide the Terminal output for inxi -Fxz.

Eg the 2018-released 8th-gen Intel/AMD processors are too new for LM 19.

Seems, many Asus computers do not play nice with LM 19 in UEFI mode = stick with LM 18.3 or install LM 19 in Legacy BIOS/MBR mode.

Hello Michael,

When you say "install LM 19 in Legacy BIOS/MBR mode", do you mean that I can disable UEFI (to avoid reinstallation) in order to work properly ?
Or do I still need a reinstallation ?

Other question, this is the same issue with the last version of Ubuntu ? (if the last LM 19 is based on it ?)

Thanks

You need a reinstallation, eg the GPT disk has to be first converted/formatted to MBR/ms-dos disk by using GParted, ie >Create new partition table >ms-dos >Apply.
