[Solved] Desktop Would Suspend After Install - Now It Won't Suspend

Post by snerd » Tue Sep 18, 2018 6:53 pm

As title says, after installation I set the power to turn off screen after 30 minutes, and to suspend after 1 hour. Worked great! Now after a couple of weeks, it just will not go into suspend sleep no matter what! What the heck am I missing?! Thanks!!

Install and try the latest 4.4 kernel series available instead, often works better with older hardware than the 4.15 series.
Update Manager > View > Linux kernels

Upon reboot from the grub menu select Advanced options and the entry line of the newly installed 4.4 kernel.

Thanks, but there is no 4.4 kernel available, just the 4.15 series.

I thought the 4.4 series was still available on Mint 19. Try a previous kernel in the 4.15 series then, first try kernel 4.15.0-20 as that's the one on a fresh install. If the computer won't suspend the issue is different.

Looks like 4.15.0-20 is installed already, but it's using the 4.15.0-34 kernel. Shall I just move up the list? And once I hit the Install button, that kernel option will be in the Boot Menu? I haven't done this before as you can tell. Thanks again!

I tried the 0-20 kernel but Cinnamon kept crashing. Back to 4.15.0-34. I'll wait until I hear from you about going up the list of kernels and trying them.

Try this, open a terminal and paste into below command:

Code: Select all

sudo update-initramfs -u -k all
Reboot and retry kernel 4.15.0-20

Before I try that, I'll add that after I tried 0-20 and failed, and went back to 0-34, my box is sleeping again! Weird. Maybe something magical fixed it lol! I'll wait another few times to make sure it's still going into suspend, then I'll come back and confirm. Thanks again!

Yes sir! It's still going to sleep! I don't know what changed, but it seems fine now. Thank you for the help.
