[Solved] E:Failed to fetch when setting up software sources.

Post by Abd121 » Fri Dec 07, 2018 12:11 pm

doing a Fresh Linux mint cinnamon 19 and this problem comes up on everything remotely related to updates. tried using all the fixes recommanded on the Internet but nothing is working... changing mirrors is only changing the name of the failing site. all leads to ''Failed to download repository information. Check your Internet connection.''

Code: Select all

"Check your Internet connection" Did you do this? Does Firefox connect to Google?

Failed to fetch http://ubuntu.ipacct.com/

This is not in the repository list for mint - you need to remove it - do that through Software Sources - after you have removed it click on restore default settings, then reload the cache

Hope this helps

so, I'm not sure how to remove it so I just switched back to the default UK server. the error message still happens around 50% of the times but after a couple of days and a lot of updates now it's successfully looking for the updates anyway even when it appears!

Weird but I can work with it for now!

The error usually happens if you try to download from a mirror as it is getting updated. That said, seeing that message 50% of the time is either incredibly bad luck or maybe an actual issue with your connection (receiving corrupt files) or your device.

what issue in my connection would cause me to receive corrupted files? my internet is usually pretty fast and stable. (I had tried more than half a dozen other mirrors and all had the same problem initially)

You might be getting more bad data than the error correction algorithm can handle.
