This link lists several people who find LMDE quicker:

I don't think you will notice the speed difference.

Mint19 allows PPAs, which makes installing some additional software easier.

The other difference I notice is that LMDE3 has fewer software updates. There are good reasons for this - to do with the level of the underlying Debian sources.

so with kmde3 a far smaller selection of software available?

I don't find any speed difference between LMDE 3 and Linux Mint 19.0 Cinnamon they both run excellent on my 2010 Dell Optiplex 380.

Intel Core 2 Duo E7500 2.93 GHz processor and 4.0 GB DDR 3 memory and mechanical 5400 RPM laptop hard drive.

I've always been a fan of Debian which was my first Linux Distro and with the Linux Mint desktop the best of both worlds imo.

The install and updates and the additional software installed using Synaptic Package Manager worked without any problems OOTB.

LMDE 3 works great and runs great on my 2010 Desktop OOTB and I've no complaints. :D

while that is nice it still doesn't answer my question "so with lmde3 a far smaller selection of software available?". that said i've always been partial to debian, but this last go around i wasn't overly impressed. when i've tested it in the past i was very impressed with the shear amount of software available straight out of the gate. this last look at debian left me wanting very badly, hence why i started looking for other distros and settle on mint cinnamon 19. nice balance across the board. was hoping a debian based mint would be pretty much the same thing, but without ppa support i seriously doubt that. basically i want to know about file manager, terminal use, any major differences between the two mint versions.

I've never noticed Debian or LMDE 3 lacking any software and software I've needed is available from the oem repository's.

I posted my earlier post in the wrong thread and meant to post here.

think i might be better off listing what i have installed in cinnamon, then peeps can say if a specific app won't work in debian.

PPAs are the big reason I came back to Mint 18.3

LMDE is rolling release, so potentially less stable. It is not as widely used. As mentioned, it doesn't support PPAs. It may require more technical understanding to get it to do what you want. And it is more of a test bed than anything else (although it is fine to use.)

Really, I think the bottom line is that unless you have a good reason you should just use the regular Mint editions.

I don't understand what all of you are saying about LMDE not supporting PPA. I needed the KXStudio repos on my LMDE 3 computer and installed them with their deb package ; and in fact all of them are Ubuntu PPAs :
