Post by Tackskull » Sun Jan 13, 2019 6:57 pm

In terminal with ethernet connection do

Code: Select all

sudo apt-get install dkms git build-essential
git clone -b extended https://github.com/lwfinger/rtlwifi_new.git
sudo dkms add ./rtlwifi_new
sudo dkms install rtlwifi-new/0.6
sudo cp -r rtlwifi_new/firmware/rtlwifi/ /lib/firmware/rtlwifi
echo "options rtl8723be ant_sel=2" | sudo tee /etc/modprobe.d/rtl8723be.conf
Reboot

Lets try

Code: Select all

echo "options rtl8723be ant_sel=2 ips=N" | sudo tee /etc/modprobe.d/rtl8723be.conf
sudo sed -i 's/wifi.powersave = 3/wifi.powersave = 2/' /etc/NetworkManager/conf.d/default-wifi-powersave-on.conf
Reboot with ethernet disconnected, if wifi still doesn't work run

Code: Select all

./wireless-info
Connect by ethernet and do

Code: Select all

cat wireless-info.txt | nc termbin.com 9999

I did it but still doesn't work, maybe I wrote it bad in the document? I copy this document and I let you see under code

Code: Select all

Maybe yours is different than most, do

Code: Select all

echo "options rtl8723be ant_sel=1 ips=N aspm=0" | sudo tee /etc/modprobe.d/rtl8723be.conf
Shutdown, then boot up

wifi doesn't work. It looks complicated to me, what is the problem with this wireless card? What should I do now?

Thanks for looking on this

There are actually 2 problems, the big problem is that HP decided to only use one antenna wire on a wifi card designed for 2 antennas. Problem 2 is that a commit was allowed into the kernel that broke antenna selection and normally using that github source fixes that issue. You could look through BIOS settings to see if there is an ASPM setting that can be disabled.
Might as well change the option back to the one that normally works

Code: Select all

echo "options rtl8723be ant_sel=2 ips=N" | sudo tee /etc/modprobe.d/rtl8723be.conf
There is a chance that editing /etc/default/grub and adding iommu=soft inside the quotes, save and do sudo update-grub might fix this one

The issue has been around for a while now https://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php ... st13401836

In which line should I insert iommu=soft? And in which way? Something like #"iommu=soft" ?

Code: Select all

GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT="quiet splash ipv6.disable=1"
Make it

Code: Select all

GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT="quiet splash ipv6.disable=1 iommu=soft"
Save and do the update-grub, reboot

Without doing this last step looks like th wifi is working now. Until yesterday wasn't working, but today here at the university looks like is working. I really thank you, you are awesome as ever. If it will give me problem I let you know.

Thanks again and good day
