Cannot play videos in Firefox

Post by dorlow » Fri Jun 14, 2019 7:42 pm

Ok, I can play most videos from what I can tell in Firefox. But, I have subscriptions for both Pluralsight and CBT Nuggets and I cannot play videos on either one of those websites with Firefox. When I try to play a video on Pluralsight, I get the error "We're sorry. There's been an issue loading your video." I installed Chrome and if I go to Pluralsight, I am able to play the video. I don't like needing to use two different browsers. I like Firefox better.

Try disabling the Hardware Acceleration in Firefox -
Click the menu button Menu and select Preferences
Select the General panel.
Under Performance, uncheck "Use recommended performance settings". Additional settings will be displayed.
Uncheck "Use hardware acceleration when available"

Close the browser and reopen now try to play videos

Hope this helps

Is mint-meta-codecs installed?

Code: Select all

dpkg --get-selections | grep mint-meta-codecs

How about a link or two to the places you get the "We're sorry. There's been an issue loading your video." ? That way others can test the same sites and see if the result is the same or different.

Here's the output.

david@david-Lenovo-ideapad-330S-15IKB:~$ dpkg --get-selections | grep mint-meta-codecs
mint-meta-codecs install

Firefox does not support MPEG4 with H265 or TS with H264 or MPEG-DASH playback where Chrome does support MPEG4

you can go to the below website to test your browser on what it will play and what it won't - here is screenshot for Firefox 67.0.4 which is mine - you can try streaming through VLC or SMPlayer both can do that
