internet has slowed down intermittently

Post by Howard_P » Thu Aug 15, 2019 5:55 pm

Hi. I'm having intermittent internet problems. Specifically, sometimes sites are quite slow to open, and I get a lot of "can't open this page" messages but when I try a second time the page opens. I'm using Firefox. Using Chrome I have the same slowness problem. My wife, who is using Windows is experiencing no such problem. This is a relatively new problem, perhaps a month or so old.

Thanks again Pjotr. I was able to execute the sequence that you referenced and it did turn the Power Management off. It will take some time to see if the process worked to eliminate the intermittent slow-down. I will report back in a few days. -Howard

Well, I was able to turn off Power Management and that seemed to help a little. But I still have problems.. One repeated problem is when trying to log onto a website I getting stuck with the computer "waiting" for the site. If I stop the process with the "x" and try again the site opens normally. Any help is appreciated. -Howard

Try this:
https://easylinuxtipsproject.blogspot.c ... .html#ID11
(item 11)

And make sure that your wireless network meets the following requirements:
- WPA2 Personal
- AES only (no TKIP)
- SSID visible
- optimal channel (preferably fixed, not dynamic/automatic)

Hello Pjotr. First, thank you again. I've done the first thing on your list. The outcome of the speedtest was:
Ping ms
17
Download Mbps
178.35
Upload Mbps
5.89
I have no indication that things became unstable. I will get to the others later today. A question that occurs to me is: why would this machine, that was working properly for so long start to have trouble? Wouldn't that imply that something had changed?
Again, thanks. -Howard
