Not sure about your specific hardware, but have to taken a "test drive" of Mint by booting from a USB stick or DVD? That's about the best way to make sure it's going to be compatible before installing.

Hello hppav,

have a look at the linux hardware database and you can compare it with your hardware. It seems working properly when using a kernel 4.20 or higher.

With an Atom processor and 2GB of ram, Mint XFCE or Peppermint would be more appropriate. Mint Mate may be too big for it.
Mint Mate 19.1. Main rig is HP 800G2 I5 6500 16GB ram, 120GB boot drive, 2x3TB, 1x4TB data drives. Oldest rig is Mate 18.3 on Dell D620 with 32bits core duo.

With an Atom processor and 2GB of ram ..
& as well as the LinuxMint XFCE Desktop,
- you could also try out MX Linux https://mxlinux.org/
as that is also designed for those older machines.

System requirements:

1GB RAM (2GB recommended for a comfortable usage).
15GB of disk space (20GB recommended).
1024×768 resolution (on lower resolutions, press ALT to drag windows with the mouse if they don’t fit in the screen).

I would start a new thread about the sound problem and mark this one solved.

open terminal and look in alsamixer, make sure the proper channels are set. That's the quick and easy solution, if it works.

yeah, start a new thread on it. Looks like you might need a "mod" installed to the kernel specific to your situation, but a new thread will attract specific and new attention.
