You could try this
https://askubuntu.com/questions/617047/ ... n-nautilus

Not near my Mint machine at the moment to test myself.
For custom Nemo actions, useful scripts for the Cinnamon desktop, and Cinnamox themes visit my Github pages.

Confirmed that it works. 1) Create the .thumbnailer file as described. 2) Delete all the thumbnails in the speciphied directories 3) Restart Nemo 4) Reexplore the target folder so that nemo rebuilds all the thumbnails. 5) You will see your .webp files with its thumbnail.

a) Solution is found here:

https://askubuntu.com/questions/617047/ ... n-nautilus

b) If this part of the solution...

rm ~/.cache/thumbnails/fail/gnome-thumbnail-factory/* rm ~/.cache/thumbnails/large/* rm ~/.cache/thumbnails/normal/* killall nautilus

... doesn't work for you, then use nemo to manually/visually explore the indicated /.cache/thumbnails/ folders, delete all the pngs inside by searching all *.png with nemo and after that open terminal and killall nemo. Reopen nemo, explore the folder and voilá!

Just in case it helps...
