[solved]wireless hard disabled since update

This problem seems to have magically solved itself. After having been connnected to ethernet for a few hours but without any actual changes to the system I went to doublecheck and wireless had come back on. I then ran all updates that the Mint update manager suggested (since I had reverted to version before any updates) trying to repeat this error but still the wifi is working. So repeatability is very poor. I have no clue what happened or how it was solved but at least I can continue.

Hi everyone,

My first post on the forum. After trying out some other distros I've been using Mint for half a year now on a Toshiba Satellite U940-12N notebook with zero issues. Until today. I ran a few updates, including a kernel update from 4.15.58 to 4.15.65, and after reboot I had no more wifi connection.
After some messing around with ifconfig I found out through RFkill that the wifi adapter is hard blocked. But how can that be? There is no true hardware switch on this system, only a keyboard switch that indeed toggles the "soft disabled" property on and off. I went into the BIOS but there is no option to enable or disable the wifi.
I used Timeshift to undo the updates and go back to last week's state of the system, but weirdly enough the wifi is still hard blocked.

Can anyone give me a hint where to look? It's hard to imagine that some freak incident physically killed my onboard wireless adapter exactly during this reboot without affecting anything else.

I am on Mint Cinnamon 19.2, BTW.

is there any WiFi switch, in the FN key area, that is at the top of the keyboard ?
- some modern keyboard's do have that option, for their laptop ..

Yes, this is the keyboard switch that I already talked about. It toggles the soft disabled property but not the hard disabled.
