Wifi is very weak

Post by Peterg2000 » Sat Oct 12, 2019 12:56 am

Hi :D

I finally took the plunge last week and decided to dump windows 10 on my HP laptop and install Linux Mint. In extemely glad I did its amazing but I just have one problem. The wifi signal is dreadful, I can be one meter away from the router and there is a very low signal and on occasion it looses signal totally.

All other devices are fine and also my laptop worked fine when I had windows on it.

Any ideas would be greatfully recieved.

Thanks

P

We need to see what your system looks like. Post the results of this command:

Code: Select all

 inxi -Fxz

OK, I advise this:

1. An antenna selection switch, because HP is too stingy to apply two antenna wires:

(item 2)

2. Possibly another driver as well:

Hi

Thanks so much for your time in coming back to me, I have tried that and it doesn't seem to have made any difference to the signal.

Thanks for trying though.

Stupid question but do you have any idea how you make the antenna selection permanent.

Every time I restart it goes back to how it was?

Thanks again

Pete

Last step of the how-to:

Code: Select all

echo "options rtl8723de ant_sel=2" | sudo tee -a /etc/modprobe.d/rtl8723de.conf
