[SOLVED] wifi not detected, newbie to mint please help HP LAPTOP REALTEK d723

Post by naveenbp » Sat Oct 12, 2019 7:40 pm

I am new user of linux mint, have used ubuntu. Installed mint on my new laptop. currently has only one OS. I could connect to internet from my phone through the usb cable but not the wifi. Searched for drivers, none were detected automatically. searched for posts on this as well but nothing seems to resemble my problem. I have attached the output in terminal for lsusb, inxi-Fxz, iwconfig and lspci. Kindly guide me guys. All help is appreciated, i cannot do my work without wifi, i hope to get a solution at the earliest. Thanks

You need a driver, but it doesn't say the number of your Realtek card.

Is there an airplane key on your keyboard? That might turn wifi on. If not, maybe something in Bios or reinsert your wifi card. I may be wrong, but seems to me something is off.

That just shows ethernet, no mention of a wifi card. Are you sure one is installed?

In any case, all I can suggest is wait for someone to respond who knows more than I do or try this:

Thanks for the reply, i do not know if wifi driver exists. I had windows which was working well with wifi. Then i deleted it and installed solus, as solus was not able to detect wifi, I deleted that and installed mint. I tried using what you have suggested above, but it displays an error. Intially, i ran commands as root and then it prompted me not to do so, hence, i did that. The last command which is supposed to fix the problem - displays error.

Hello naveenbp,

you need the RTL8723DE driver. You can recognize it in your lspci-output here:
02:00.0 Network controller: Realtek Semiconductor Co., Ltd. Device d723
On the following website you find a how-to for installation:

https://easylinuxtipsproject.blogspot.c ... k.html#ID8
(item 8 )

If you experience problems after the driver installation, have a look at item 2 on the same page:

https://easylinuxtipsproject.blogspot.c ... k.html#ID2

THANKS A LOT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
THE FIRST SOLUTION WORKED FOR ME, the signal strength is less, even when my device is next to the phone from which i tether the wifi.
However, that is a thing i will look for solutions later, GOOD NEWS IS I CAN CONNECT TO WIFI AT STARTUP. THANKS AGAIN!! :D :D

Hello naveenbp,

that are good news and you're welcome :)

Because of the signal strength first have a look at item 2 as linked above.
