can't enable wifi -- Realtek RTL8111/8168/8411

Post by will10 » Sat Oct 12, 2019 11:38 pm

Hi friends,
I can't enable Wi-Fi.

r@wozz:~$ inxi -Nn
Network:
Device-1: Realtek RTL8111/8168/8411 PCI Express Gigabit Ethernet
driver: r8169
IF: enp2s0 state: up speed: 1000 Mbps duplex: full mac: <stripped>
Device-2: Realtek driver: N/A

r@wozz:~$ rfkill list
0: hci0: Bluetooth
Soft blocked: no
Hard blocked: no

Other devices (android os) work well. Any Ideas?

Reason: added device ID to subject; stripped mac address

Hello will10,

the Realtek RTL8111/8168/8411 is not the wifi but the wired ethernet card. To find out, what wifi card and what hardware you use, please show the outputs of the following terminal commands. You can use the </> button above the text box to put it in codeblocks:

Code: Select all

inxi -Fxz

Code: Select all

iwconfig

Code: Select all

rfkill list all

Plug it into your router.
All things go better with Mint. Mint julep, mint jelly, mint gum, candy mints, pillow mints, peppermint, chocolate mints, spearmint,....

I don't see a wifi device at all listed. Why do you think you do? Plug in some USB wifi device, preferably a Panda.

https://www.realtek.com/en/products/com ... /rtl8723de

http://ubuntuhandbook.org/index.php/201 ... ntu-19-04/

https://github.com/smlinux/rtl8723de

you probably have to compile the driver/mod yourself. Will also need to install "build essential" to compile it.

Hello will10,

you need the same driver for wifi as posted here:

viewtopic.php?f=53&t=303496#p1700490

Just follow and you should havve success in enabling wifi. Be aware, you have HP laptop, too, so that the item 2 can also be relevant for you.

Code: Select all

sudo apt-get install dkms git build-essential
git clone -b extended https://github.com/lwfinger/rtlwifi_new.git
sudo dkms add ./rtlwifi_new
sudo dkms install rtlwifi-new/0.6
sudo cp -r rtlwifi_new/firmware/rtlwifi/ /lib/firmware/rtlwifi/
echo "options rtl8723de ant_sel=2" | sudo tee /etc/modprobe.d/rtl8723de.conf
Check mokutil --sb-state as if it says Secure Boot is enabled, you will need to disable Secure Boot in BIOS/UEFI when you reboot, don't delete the Secure Boot keys

Try this: sudo apt-get install rtl8812au-dkms
You may have to restart, but it should work.
